What does research in a STEM field and computer science look like? The听application-oriented听exchange program at the听Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg gives you a close inside look at mere听and company-related research projects. You'll gain valuable work experience听to apply to further research or working endeavors.

Since the working language is English (at least B2),听you focus on the research project without facing the challenge of mandatory German language proficiency. However, you still can promote your German studying in special courses offered by the Center for Languages and Intercultural Communication.

The program terms run听for the entire summer and winter semesters. You are free to choose between two options:

Short-term Research internships (1-3 months)

You can perfectly integrate our听short-term research internships听into a running study program without missing exams or course attendance.

You intern听full-time for between 30 and 90 days听and arrange the period and duration in accordance with your supervising professor.

Finally, you finish with a report about your assignments and a respective presentation, depending on the project assessment requirements.

The internship provides 5 to 6 credits per 30 days. You can add further credits by attending German courses. For more details on the German training, please see "Language requirements".

Applied study semester (1 semester)

The Applied study semester (A2S) consists of practical laboratory work, field subjects, or your Bachelor's or Master's thesis.

For the laboratory experience or your thesis's topic, you will find some of the current research projects offered for the A2S in the听project overview. Additionally, you can always ask the coordinator of the Application-oriented program for further exciting research projects.

Field subjects available for the A2S are held in English. You can either deepen your knowledge of your study or have an introduction to subjects related to your study in a broader sense. You can find the list of accessible courses on the official website of the听course catalog for exchange students.

You obtain between 24 and 30 credits, split between 50 percent lab work (12 to 15 credits) and 50 percent technical courses (12 to 15 credits).

Technical courses include one or two of the听General elective courses (under "Gesamt眉bersicht aller Kurse") or听courses offered by the Center for Languages and Intercultural Communication, including German training. Please keep in mind that the majority of the courses ought to be technical subjects.

The number of credits of the Bachelor's or Master's thesis depends on the necessary record determined by your studying program.

Deadlines and terms

Short-term Research internship

You can apply for a short-term internship throughout the entire academic calendar. However, it is worth noting that most laboratories are not supervised during August due to the holiday season.

For study abroad advisors

The application-oriented exchange program at TH Augsburg allows exchange students to combine practical experience with experience abroad.

Your students do not only examine running research projects. They are also members of the research team and learning experts, and therefore, they need subject-specific prerequisites.

For this reason, first of all, the applicants must find a research project suiting their study program and an academic referee of your university to confirm their choice.

In the听Report on eligibility, the academic referee approves the applicant's appropriation based on the project description forwarded by the potential supervising professor or the coordinator of the Application-oriented exchange program. The academic referee conveys the document to you, the study abroad advisor, or the 91漫画 program coordinator.

The Report on eligibility is necessary for both the Research internships and the Applied study semester.

Besides the standard information and the Report on eligibility, we ask you to send us the completed and signed Statement of support and credit eligibility.

The Statement of support and credit eligibility provides information on whether the internship is mandatory or voluntary based on the studying program of the applicant (necessary for enrollment). It ensures that the applicant is informed about their student visa requirements:

The research internships of this program take 90 days at the maximum. Participants in the Research internships are听enrolled as exchange students and basically need a student visa. However, a stay of 90 days at the maximum can provide different visa conditions than a regular exchange semester in Germany. Certain citizenships do not require a student visa in this case. However, these conditions do change on the 91st day of stay.
